This series: Faith in Real Life: Stories of Hope in a Messed-Up World
Each week, keep asking: What did this person discover about God in their mess that changes how we see Him today?

Main Ideas:
We’ve all felt like an outsider at some point in our lives.
We treat difference as a threat,
Even the most ordinary faithfulness can be woven into God’s extraordinary story.
Sometimes faith is loving well and not giving up… when you can’t see what’s next.
Faith can also be simply doing the next right thing.
Faith in action is following the heart of God in our everyday lives.
God’s grace and love break through every human barrier!
God’s heart has always been for people. There are no outsiders to him.
God’s people are always called to see, love, and welcome the “outsider.”
God’s story has always made space for outsiders

Invitation: Purposely see someone this week.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do you think people (including us) naturally create “in” and “out” groups?
  2. Who in your life has made you feel seen, welcomed, or included when you expected to be overlooked?
  3. Thinking through the story of Ruth, why do you think it’s significant that Ruth, an outsider, becomes part of Jesus’ family line?
  4. What’s one “next right thing” you could do this week to show someone God’s love or welcome?
  5. How can your group pray with you?
